Patient support after surgery
If you’re helping a friend or relative, who is about to have a day surgery procedure at the Artarmon Day Surgery and you’re accompanying them to and from the day hospital, you’ll need to know what to expect. They will not be able to drive for at least 24 hours after surgery, and will need someone to look after them so they can rest, so it’s important you can take them home after their procedure and stay with them for a while – preferably overnight.
Admission
We will let you both know the expected discharge time on admission. We have a comfortable waiting room in our reception. If you wish you can also spend time at the local shops or cafes. It’s a short walk to KFC or you can walk about 10mins toward Artarmon Station, where there are many food outlets and cafes. Alternatively, its a short drive to Crows Nest, Lane Cove or Chatswood Westfield. Our Recovery Room staff will call you after the operation to confirm the anticipated discharge time.
Recovery
After surgery, the patient will need to rest at home for the remainder of the day. Please stay with them to make sure they can. They should not plan to run errands or look after others on that day. If you have any concerns about their recovery after the procedure, please call their doctor immediately.
